Many people suffer from problems which affect the appearance of their teeth. Chips, cracks, discoloration, gaps, crooked teeth and incorrect shape or size are just a few of these. All of these problems can be solved beautifully with porcelain veneers. Many people even decide to get porcelain veneers as an alternative to braces.
How Porcelain Veneers Can Help
Veneers are thin wafers of porcelain bonded onto the fronts of your teeth. With its color, translucency, hardness, and gloss, porcelain mimics tooth structure better than any other restorative material. In addition, it is resistant to wear and can last for many years. A dentist with artistic inclinations can control the exact shade of your teeth and can create the smile style of your choice. And because porcelain
is so resistant to stain, the sparkle your dentist/artist puts into your smile will be there for years.
Dr. Lane’s Porcelain Veneer Procedure
If you’ve decided you want a smile makeover, Dr. Lane will start by sitting down with you and discussing what you want in your new smile—how white you want your smile to be, and the shapes and characteristics of the teeth. To help you with this, he’ll show you photographs of different smiles including some of his work.
Once he understands what you want to achieve, he’ll do a digital smile makeover for you, translating the changes you want in your smile to an actual digitally manipulated photograph that you can take home with you, to help you decide if this is what you want.
Once you’ve determined the smile style you want, the next step is the preparation appointment, assuming your gums are in good health. If your gums are inflamed, that will need to be addressed first. Then, if any preparation is needed on your teeth, that will be accomplished, and impressions will be taken. Dr. Lane’s ceramist will use those impressions to create models of your teeth on which the porcelain veneers will be fabricated.
Meanwhile, Dr. Lane will create a set of provisional veneers for you to wear. These will be colored and shaped to the smile style you have selected, and you can use these as a “test drive” of your new smile. If there is anything you don’t like about them, you can tell Dr. Lane and he will re-shape them or do whatever needs to be done until you are thrilled with how they look. He will then use that as a pattern to send to the ceramist, who will create the porcelain veneers to match the provisionals.
The Beautiful Smile Guarantee
Once the permanent veneers are ready, you will have the opportunity to see how they look in your mouth before permanently bonding. This is called a try-in. After all the preparatory work, you will almost certainly love them. But if you have any reservations about how they look, Dr. Lane will have them sent back to the laboratory and re-made, if necessary, to meet your expectations. This is his beautiful smile guarantee—they will not be bonded to your teeth until you love how they look.
