You may be concerned about the possibility of removable dentures slipping around or falling out. Dr. Lane can address this concern with the use of implant overdentures to achieve a combination of the strength and stability of dental implants with the simplicity of dentures. This technique yields an effective option if you are missing multiple teeth, but want to avoid the significant cost of replacing teeth with individual implants.
Overdenture Procedure
Overdentures are anchored permanently in your jaw. This is done by placing dental implants at key points, but done with your remaining, natural teeth, if they are healthy enough. The dental implant procedure consists of a surgical insertion of a titanium root form into your jaw bone, followed by a healing period which results in a strong base of support for the overdenture. Depending on your dental needs, additional implants may be used, or a retainer bar may be needed to join two implants and provide additional support.
Advantages of Overdentures
Implant overdentures will not slip or fall out, as is possible with removable dentures. They will not move when you speak or eat. They provide more stability, and better biting and chewing support than removable dentures. They also prevent facial collapse.
