Dental bonding is an excellent technique for chips, spots, gaps, or other small defects in your teeth. This technique offers a fast and easy way to repair these defects, while still matching your tooth’s natural shade. Dr. Rick Lane is skilled in dental bonding and has an artistic touch.
Dental Bonding Technique
Dental bonding uses a composite made of particles such as silicon dioxide or quartz bound with a tough synthetic resin. It comes in different shades, toughness, and translucencies to match your teeth. It is used to close gaps between teeth, fill cavities, or eliminate spots, chips, and discolorations. The technique is also used to repair broken front teeth.
The procedure will begin with preparing your tooth by gently roughening the area to be repaired. Then, the surface of the tooth is etched to allow the bonding resin to adhere. Composite is then applied over the bonding resin. It is then cured to its final hardness, usually with a light. Finally, Dr. Lane will finish shaping the composite and polish it.
The composite has a paste-like consistency that allows him to shape it. The final restoration is usually made of several different colors of material, since your tooth also has color gradients in it. There are also varying degrees of translucency. High-strength composite will be used for the bulk of the restoration, and the outer layer will be a material that is able to be polished to a high gloss. With careful artistry, Dr. Lane will mimic the color details and translucency of your tooth and then polish it to a beautiful shine.
